知情者向路透记者表示，此次评估起码从今年2月就已启动。摩根大通的评估结论是，相比面临多宗监管方诉讼的风险和成本，现货商品的利润太薄。
另一个考虑退出的原因是，现货商品业务并没有提供企业客户通常需要的服务。
本月下旬，《纽约时报》以五个版面抨击高盛利用仓库操纵铝价的报道传得沸沸扬扬。该报记者发表报告披露，高盛控制一家企业转移铝库存抬高市价。
这无疑使美国监管部门承受了巨大压力。
上周五，美联储表示，联储正在重新审视2003年的一个里程碑式决定——该决定允许受监管的银行交易实物商品。
